Directions:

From I-5 N, take the Highway 20 exit and head East on Hwy. 20.
Drive for about 24 miles to Milepost 82/Baker Lake Highway (aka. Forest Rd. 11).
Turn North onto the Baker Lake Hwy. and drive about 14.8 miles to Forest Rd. 1118.
Turn East onto Forest Rd. 1118 and drive 2 miles to the campground.

The Ranger phone number is 360-856-5700, though you don't really get any cell service up there. You can get cell service if you drive further up the road to the Baker Lake Resort.

The Hot Springs is a 10 minute drive from the campground. To get to the Hot Springs from Horseshoe Cove, get back on Forest Rd. 1118 and continue East to Forest Rd. 1144, directly across from the Baker Lake Resort. Turn left and drive about 3.2 VERY bumpy miles to the turnout, then follow the path uphill about 1/3 mile. Do not attempt this unless you are in a 4-wheel drive with high clearance!

This year's camp will be 4 days long!

The Summer Test will be on Saturday, July 17th at noon.

2009 Workshops Offered:

Intensive Training Workshop

Led by Cho Kyo Sa Kai Bublitz, this intensive training workshop will focus on increasing physical stamina and endurance through stance work and drills. Make sure to bring some water, and to stretch out beforehand! You may also want to take a trip to the Hot Springs after this workout!

Hard/External Workshop

Led by Kyo Sa Nim Sara Young-Buck, this class will focus on the harder aspects of our style. Blocks, punches, kicks, and dynamic movement will be discussed and practiced.

Inter-School Sparring

This year we will be introducing a session of inter-school sparring on Sunday afternoon. This can be barehands or weapons sparring, and should be quite entertaining!

Barehands/One to Four Step Sparring

Led by Kyo Sa Nim Charles Carter, this class will focus on how to spar in a one-on-one situation. Depending on the Shindoka participating, training techniques will range from learning how to take a hit, one- and two-step sparring, and formal "point" sparring.
Protective gear is required.

Randori Sparring

This class will focus on defending against multiple attackers. Randori, also known as "Chinatown", is frequently seen during Sempei belt tests.
Protective gear is required.

Bo Sparring

Led by Kyo Sa Nim Charles Carter, this Summer Camp favorite will focus not only on our Bo Form, but also on how to effectively combat with a bo-wielding opponent.
Be sure to bring your Bo staff!

Shinai Sparring

This class will focus on the proper technique and etiquette of Kempo. Depending on the Shindoka participating, training techniques will range from learning how to draw and sheathe the shinai, the difference between legal and illegal targets, how to give and receive strikes, basic blocking, feints, and point sparring.
Protective gear is required, and don't forget to bring your shinai!

Chain Workshop

Led by Kyo Sa Nim Sara Young-Buck, this workshop will focus on our most difficult weapon to master.

Glowstick Night Forms/Sparring

Led by Cho Kyo Sa Deja Hanson, this workshop takes place after dark. Participants will wear glow stick bracelets (provided), and practice forms and slow- to medium-speed sparring. Practicing without the aid of your eyes can increase your awareness of c'hi flow, and help you access your other senses when defending against an opponent. And, of course, it looks really cool!
